Bio Sketch

Dr. Yedukondalu Nalli is a Scientist in Natural Products Chemistry at CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, India. After completing his M.Sc.(Organic Chemistry), in 2009 (School of Chemistry, Andhra University), he began working as a researcher in various natural product drug discovery programs for over ten years. This period of his career provided opportunities for him to develop world-leading expertise in the application of a diversity of modern analytical chemistry and spectroscopic analysis techniques (particularly chromatography, 2D NMR, and mass spectrometry) used to identify complex organic molecules and this culminated in the design and implementation of methods for high throughput extraction, purification, and structure determination of new drug leads from plant and micro-organisms.

Dr. Yedukondalu Nalli is currently an author and co-author of over 30  peer-reviewed publications in international Chemistry/Biology journals and an inventor or co-inventor on two patent applications. Dr. Nalli’s research has resulted in the isolation and structure determination of >100 natural products from plant and microbial sources. He received an award for his outstanding contribution of natural products to Col Sir R.N Chopra Repository, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.

Dr. Nalli’s research group focuses on the

  • Preparation of crude extracts, enriched fractions from natural sources, including those from plants, microbial cultures, and marine invertebrates
  • Isolation/purification of novel/bio-active natural products at a milligram to gram scale
  • Characterization of structures of purified metabolites
  • Expansion of new/bio-active chemical diversity of natural products
  • Utilization of natural products for drug discovery of various human diseases, in particular cancer and infectious diseases, by collaborating with Scientists in diverse disciplines, including pharmacology, virology, and microbiology
  • Overall, they focus on revealing the biological potential of compounds from nature

Researchers working in Dr. Nalli’s group develop skills in various modern chromatographic, and spectroscopic techniques.
