Bio Sketch
Dr. Prasoon Gupta has over 20 years of research experience in the field of Traditional Indian Medicine which includes terrestrial, microbial and marine natural product chemistry. Dr. Gupta has obtained his BS and MS degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Devi Ahilya Vishva Vidhyalaya, Indore, India. He has started his carrier as a Project Assistant (JRF) in the field of Natural Product Chemistry, at NIPER, Mohali, India and he was associated with many projects of national importance, one to discuss is “Development of Herbal Pharmacopeia for ISM Drugs” for quality standards of Indian traditional medicines. He has obtained his Ph.D. degree in Natural Product Chemistry from Central Drug Research Institute, India in the year 2007.
Dr. Gupta moved to USA for advanced training in the area of NPs first at University of Georgia (2007-2008) then to Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton (2008-2012) where he was actively engaged in the development of high throughput methods for identification of bioactive metabolites from marine natural products that impact the growth of human embryonic stem cells. Further, he moved to University of North Carolina (2012-2013), Wilmington, USA to work at MARBION center for marine natural product as a Research Assistant Professor, and he was actively engaged in drug discovery from marine algae and microbes.
In 2013, he joined CSIR-IIIM as a Senior Scientist. At present, he is working as a Principal Scientist at CSIR-IIIM and focusing on “high-throughput identification of natural products from traditional medicinal plants”. So far Dr. Gupta has published over 35 research articles in high -tier scientific journals and also has eight published book chapter in credit. He has been awarded many travel grants and research funding to carry out his research. He is a life member of Chemical Research Soc of India, Soc of Pharmacognosy; Assoc Member of American Soc of Pharmacognosy, and American Cancer Soc.
