Hands on Training in BSL-3 Laboratory Practices & RT-PCR Testing of Clinical Samples for Covid-19 was organized as a part of CSIR-Skill development mission at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu from 2nd to 17th July, 2021 to train the army and air force medical personnel in Covid19 diagnostics. The training was inaugurated by Dr. Srinivasa Reddy, Director, CSIR-IIIM in the presence of Er. Abdul Rahim, Dr. Sumit Gandhi, Dr Rashmi Sharma and Dr Kuljit Singh. The personnel were trained in handling of human clinical samples suspected for Covid19 infection, RNA extraction from Viral transport medium (VTM) and RT-PCR set up and result analysis. The workshop was commenced with the lecture on “Biosafety levels and Covid19 testing at CSIR-IIIM“ by Dr. Kuljit Singh, Scientist, IIIM Jammu, followed by a weeklong hands on training in the BSL-3 facility. The medical personnel were trained to become proficient to work in BSL-3 facility and could work independently in the setting. It is one of the steps taken by the institute for building diagnostic strength in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
