Bio Sketch
Dr Shahid Rasool is a Senior Scientist in Genetic Resources and Agro- technology and is serving as Scientist-in-Charge, Field Station Bonera, Pulwama of CSIR-IIIM. Dr Shahid was raised on a family farm in Northern Kashmir. At some stage in his teenage years between working on the farm and spending time at Tyndale Biscoe School, Dr Shahid discovered his keen interest in Agricultural Sciences and Livestock Husbandry. He moved on to earn his Bachelors degree in Agricultural Sciences, Masters degree and Ph.D in Agronomy. Prior to beginning his current position, Dr Shahid served for several years as Scientist (Agronomy & Agrostology) in Mountain Research Center for Sheep & Goat – Shuhama, Mountain Livestock Research Institute – Manasbal and Scientist (Agronomy) at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ganderbal, SKUAST-Kashmir. His experience in the mountain farming systems research, farm policy planning, analysis and management shaped his research interests in the development of agro and processing protocols and value chain of high altitude medicinal and aromatic plant biodiversity. Dr Shahid possesses a very robust scientific and leadership attitude and has led many challenging projects and programmes for the development and extension of medicinal and aromatic crops in mountainous regions of J&K and Ladakh. He is recipient of letter of commendation from XV Corps Indian Army for his service in the Sadhbavana Mission and was also awarded as Scientist of the Year 2016 by EOAI for his significant contributions in the extension of Lavender and other aromatic crops in the hills of Kashmir Valley. Dr Shahid is a cricket enthusiast and avid trekker.
