Dr D Srinivasa Reddy, a scientist from the Organic Chemistry Division of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune, has assumed the charge of Director of CSIR – Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu.
He has over 20 years of research experience with main focus of application oriented organic synthesis, in particular while total synthesis of biologically active natural products, medicinal chemistry and crop protection are the major areas of areas in his group. Efforts on macrocyclic natural products and silicon incorporation in known drug scaffolds with an ultimate aim of discovering drugs are the special interests of his group.
Dr Reddy graduated from Osmania University and completed his Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from the same University in 1993. He joined Prof Goverdhan Mehta’s lab at the University of Hyderabad for doctoral studies and got Ph D in the year 2000. After the post-doctoral work at the laboratories of Sergey A Kozmin of the University of Chicago and Jeffrey Aubé of University of Kansas, USA, he worked in pharmaceutical companies in India. He moved to CSIR-NCL in the year 2010 and was working as a Senior Principal Scientist before his appointment as Director of CSIR-IIIM.
He has authored more than 100 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals and is an inventor in 35 patents. He is recipient of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar prize in Chemical Sciences.
Immediately after taking over the charge, he took an overview of R&D activities and extension programmes being conducted by the Institute. Besides, he also discussed the status of other major facilities and future requirements to address the constraints faced by the Institute.
While addressing the IIIM staff through virtual mode, he discussed his vision for making CSIR-IIIM Jammu as a sought-after place of all facets of natural products and taking forward the major ongoing societal programmes and the flagship projects of Government undertaken by the institute for the development of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories.
