CSIR-IIIM Jammu has inaugurated the National Intellectual Property Festival-NIPF (Rastriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotshav) on July 17, 2023.

On the third day of celebration of National Intellectual Property Festival, IPR Awareness Workshop for the students, scholars & faculty members of Government Women College, Parade Ground, Jammu was conducted on 19th July, 2023 by CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu.

The program aims to educate participants about the key provisions and benefits of Intellectual Property Rights.

Dr Kancherla Prasad, Senior Scientist from CSIR-IIIM, Jammu while delivering the key note address, has shed light on the importance on various types of IPRs including Patents, Trade Marks, Trade Secrets, Copy Rights, Design Rights & Geographical Indication (G.I). He explained how Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) play a crucial role in protecting and incentivizing innovation and creativity in various fields. He discussed the significant contribution of IPRs to economic growth by fostering innovation and attracting investment. He briefed how IPRs safeguard the rights of innovators/creators, allowing them to have control over the use, reproduction, and distribution of their inventions/creations. The IP protection ensures that creators receive fair compensation for their work and can commercialize their inventions.

Er. Ankush Varma, Coordinator, Technology Business Incubator throw light on how IPRs are important for startups and entrepreneurs to safeguard their business ideas. He also briefed the large gathering about the role of CSIR-IIIM Incubators in building a startup movement in Jammu & Kashmir and beyond.

It was informed that around 170 participants inclusive of students & faculty members participated. Dr. Vikas Dogra, Assistant Professor has conducted the proceedings and later presented the vote of thanks.

Earlier Prof S P Saraswat Principal, Govt College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu in his welcome address, has given a brief overview on the importance of IPRs in the business world.
