CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu successfully concluded the four-day Phenome India – CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase (PI-CHeCK) health check-up camp, held from 2nd to 5th August 2025. The initiative reaffirmed CSIR’s commitment to building a “Swasth Bharat, Viksit Bharat” (Healthy India, Developed India) through science-led wellness and precision health initiatives.

A total of 159 participants, including staff, pensioners, and their spouses, voluntarily underwent a wide array of advanced health assessments under this national initiative. These included Transient Elastography (FibroScan), ECG, Spirometry, Oscillometry, Complete Blood Count (CBC), Liver and Kidney Function Tests (LFT, KFT), Lipid Profile, Body Composition Analysis (BCA), Dietary Assessments, and Prakriti Analysis by Ayurvedic practitioners.

Speaking at the valedictory session, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR–IIIM Jammu, lauded the efforts of the organizing committee, medical professionals, and volunteers for the smooth and impactful execution of the camp. He noted, “The PI-CHeCK initiative is a transformative programme under CSIR, combining advanced diagnostics with AI/ML-powered analytics. The data generated from such camps will be instrumental in developing personalized healthcare strategies for the Indian population and identifying biomarkers for early disease detection.”

The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony to recognize the exceptional contributions of the health professionals, support teams, and volunteers who made the programme a success.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. Sumit G. Gandhi, Senior Principal Scientist & Head, Infectious Diseases Division, CSIR–IIIM, emphasized the long-term national importance of the PI-CHeCK cohort. “The data collected will become a cornerstone for future research into disease prediction, early intervention, and population-specific healthcare policies,” he said.

The PI-CHeCK programme is being implemented across 37 CSIR labs nationwide under the leadership of Dr. Shantanu Sengupta, Chief Scientist at CSIR–IGIB and Principal Investigator of the project. At CSIR–IIIM, the local coordination was managed by Dr. Sumit G. Gandhi and Dr. Ankita Sahu, Project Scientist, CSIR–IGIB, with strong support from Yogesh Kumar and Subhash Gurjar of CSIR–IGIB.

The organizing team from CSIR–IIIM included Dr. Saurabh Saran, Dr. Rajendra Bhanwaria, Dr. Kuljit Singh, and Sanjay Sharma, whose efforts were instrumental in ensuring smooth execution. The programme was conducted under the overall supervision and guidance of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR–IIIM.

The successful completion of the PI-CHeCK camp at CSIR–IIIM Jammu stands as a shining example of science in service of society and reflects CSIR’s leadership in advancing national health and wellness through innovation.
