Profile

Bio Sketch

Sandip B. Bharate is a Senior Principal Scientist & Professor (Medicinal Chemistry) at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, the constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India. He received M.S. and Ph.D. in Natural Products from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali in 2002 and 2007, respectively. Subsequently, he worked as a Research Scientist at Piramal Life Sciences Ltd, Mumbai for 1.5 years. Following an NIH postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. Charles M. Thompson at the University of Montana (U.S.), he began his independent research career at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in 2011.

His laboratory focuses on the discovery and development of natural products based small-molecule kinase inhibitors. He is the lead inventor of a Cdk inhibitor IIIM-290 which has recently entered a clinical trial. His group is also working on the rational drug design of multi-targeted anti-Alzheimer agents. One of the anti-Alzheimer lead IIIM-141 discovered from his group has been licensed to the industry as a nutraceutical product.

Academic honors to his credit include InnoCentive awards, NASI Platinum Jubilee Young Scientist Award, CSIR Young Scientist award, OPPI Young Scientist Award and MEDI Young Investigator Award 2020 and CSIR Technology Award 2021 (certificate of merit). He has been listed among the World’s top 2% Scientists(Medicinal Chemistry) in the list released by Stanford University in 2020.
